Gurlhood is an online platform founded in March 2023 to empower, encourage and elevate unapologetic South African gurls*.
Through sharing our stories of mental health, feminist issues and other topics that shape the lived experiences of young women, we continue to raise awareness, humanise these experiences and foster a journey of collective healing & learning.
Gurlhood aims to cultivate a vibrant community where our gurls feel seen, heard, supported and encouraged.

about our founder
Zenith Kwinana is a writer, speaker and model from Pretoria, South Africa. Gurlhood was founded by Zenith while she was completing her final year of undergraduate at Stellenbosch University.
Zenith has always been vocal about mental health issues, even publishing a prose and poetry collection detailing her experience.
She is also passionate about gender-based violence, women’s rights and lgbtq+ rights. She aims to use her love for writing and storytelling as a mouthpiece for change and empowerment.
Ultimately, Gurlhood is a reflection of Zenith’s vibrant energy and an expression of her own passion, courage and creativity.
